Dunedin Map Pendant Necklace
Pure Kiwiana, our Dunedin map pendant necklaces are completely handmade right here in New Zealand. Measuring 25mm across, each pendant features a carefully positioned map of Dunedin covered by a glass dome. The pendant hangs on an 80cm ball chain and has a small adorable solid heart nesting beside it.
Tourists and Otago University Scarfies will adore being able to take home a special piece of this beautiful ‘Rugby City.’ Known for having legendary hospitality, cool snowy winters and sunny hot summers, Dunedin also played home to many gold miners in the 1800’s when gold was found to the south at Gabriel’s Gully. Even though our pendant and chain are nickel free and either silver or bronze plated rather than gold, there is still no better way to show your love of Dunedin than by keeping your very own miniature map of it with you around your neck. Share your pride on Dunedin being your hometown on your sleeve, or rather around your neck, by adding a lovely ‘Home’ stamped tag to your map pendant.
Dunedin, or Dunners as it is affectionately known by locals, is said to be the best kept secret of the South Island. Famously known for training our doctors and physiotherapists, Otago University is responsible for the large student population within Dunedin. Bursting with exciting events, traditions and an amazing cultural heritage, it is no wonder that Dunedin is thought of as one of the four major cities in NZ.
Positioned at the head of the Otago Harbour, Dunedin is home to a world famous wildlife sanctuary located within the Otago Peninsular. Home to our special Yellow-Eyed and Little-Blue Penguins, this city also has claim to having the steepest street in the world – Baldwin Street. It is here that the annual Jaffa Race takes place during a chocolate festival, celebrated thanks to the local chocolate factory. If chocolate is not your thing, Dunedin also plays home to many restaurants which specialise in serving fresh locally caught seafood.
Each pendant and necklace set is easily cared for. Simply take your jewellery piece off before entering water and when using perfume, spray before you put your necklace on.
